The State Russian Museum was the first state museum of national art in Russia, it was founded in 1895 in Saint Petersburg. It occupies four buildings, situated in the historical center of the city. At present the museum collection comprises 400 000 exhibits, many items were handed by the Hermitage and Academy of Arts or delivered from Emperor’s palace. The masterpieces created by the artists of various Russian schools and trends of art of 10-20th centuries are exhibited in the museum.
