Yaroslavl

Yaroslavl is a majestic city, situated on the high bank of the Volga, abounding in architectural and cultural monuments of Russian history. It was founded in 1010 by Rostov knyaz Yaroslav Mudry at the confluence of the Kotorosl river and the Volga. The history of the city is connected with life and activity of the poet N.Nekrasov, the founder of the first Russian national theater F.Volkov, the sculpture A.Opekushin, the artist A.Savrassov and others. The XVII-th century, was the “Golden Age” for Yaroslavl, beautiful architectural monuments of that period include: Ilya Prorok church, Bogoyavlenskaya church, Spaso-Preobrazhensky monastery (founded in the late XII-th century) and others.
